Angom Thajalembi Chanu
JNV West Imphal I'd like to become a Dakshana scholar and hopefully attend IITI am Angom Thajalembi Chanu. I was born on October 20th, 1994. My father is a farmer and my mother is a housewife, but my mother earns more money than my father does. She makes wine with rice and she sells pigs to other places. I have two elder sisters, one elder brother, and one younger sister. We are lucky to be the children of my father and mother. My family is a big, but happy family. It is hard to face this world without money and love. My relatives help us at every moment. They always encourage me to become a perfect person.
In 2004, I was selected to study at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Khumborg. Through my aunt, I passed the exam. July 12th was my first day to set foot on the campus of Navodaya, leaving my parents. There were so many people like me. First I got confused by my surroundings, but slowly, slowly I adjusted. When my mother asked me, “How is your school?” I replied, “It is better than home.”
In the beginning, I did not know what education was. When I was studying in the sixth standard, I failed in mathematics, getting eight marks out of 25 marks. Then, mathematics became my favorite subject. In the 2008-2009 session, I passed the board exam, getting an 82 percent. It was more than I expected I would get, but I could not fulfill my mathematics teacher’s dream. Then, I got the golden chance through IIT internet coaching organised by Dakshana. For this, I had to come to JNV Periakalapet, Pondicherry, leaving my parents, friends, and school. I learned many things from that school.
My dream is to become an astronomer, but I wanted to be a pilot when I was a boy. God and my mother are the people I trust most. I think that they are always around me. My favorite proverb is, “Have faith in God and never forget to thank Him.”
