why does minny help skeeter with the book thesis

Skeeter makes her decision: she will go to New York. Skeeter lives in the early 1960s and is in her early twenties when she works on Help in collaboration with Aibileen, Minny, and the other black women who agree to share their stories. Skeeter wants to be a famous writer, not a housewife, though she does feel compelled to take the more conventional path when the handsome Stuart Whitworth Jr. shows a romantic interest in her. At first, the book starts out with Aibileen doing a normal day of work. The Help is set in Jackson, Mississippi and begins in August 1962. Aibileen is a black woman who works for a white family, the Leefolts. She notices the Skeeter isn’t like all the other ladies.

Stockett grew up in the 1970s and is looking back on the experience from her thirties. Unlike Skeeter (it seems) Stockett is writing during a time where it's much more acceptable to write about race-based injustice. Skeeter sends Aibileen's chapter to Elaine Stein in New York, who calls Skeeter to say that the material is good but there needs to be at least 12 maids' stories to make a book and it needs to be done in six months.

As a black maid she is expected to be submissive and quiet, but Minny is neither. Chapter 34 (Written from the perspective of Aibileen.) Minny and Aibileen are there to help Skeeter with her book. She says what she feels, often speaking out against the injustice she experiences and witnesses.

Though best friends with Hilly and Elizabeth Leefolt, she pulls away from them when she starts writing her book, Help, with Aibileen and Minny. The novel features three main narrators – Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter. When Skeeter gets a job at the local newspaper she starts to go to Aibileen for help with the Miss Myrna articles. She’s more polite. Minny fiercely tells her that there is nothing at all left for her in Jackson, and that she better get her white butt to New York City.

Aibileen has asked 31 other maids but they are all too scared to help with the project. The novel is an example of narratives of difference and the representation of the characters Miss Skeeter, Minny and Aibileen increases and enhances the differences between people.
