The study of how location leads to artistic inspiration complements our workshops and one-on-one tutorials grounded in shaping the written word. It is not necessary to submit all three genres; though you may wish to reflect your strengths in various genres, the focus should be on that in which you propose to complete your thesis. Seton Hill’s unique online-supported residency program teaches writers to create, market, and teach the fiction that sells. Selective admissions. Our program’s flexibility allows you to propose a thesis project in traditional or innovative genres and media, including digital. Mentoring is an important aspect of our program, and students have the opportunity to work closely with faculty not only on their writing, but through our teaching fellowship program, which pairs students with faculty mentors. Many then choose to write a senior thesis in a single genre, creating in the last year of study a collection of poems or stories, a novel, or a finished screenplay; students might also pursue internships in writing and editing. Part of the San Francisco Bay Area’s vibrant literary community, Mills College offers innovative MFA programs in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. This unique program combines intensive, craft-focused creative writing workshops with elective courses and internships in publishing, pedagogy, literature, and language.
