So I don't at all regret doing my masters - both for the skills I got and for the extra credential.So my advice to you would be to try to stick it out and do the masters', but to not feel pressured to either (1) write the absolute perfect masters' thesis or (2) to go beyond that if you're not interested.But either way, keep in mind - your happiness matters.

But I had a mentality shift when I changed my perspective on papers from something that seemed like tedious and overwhelming extra work to the culmination of my research that will be received by far broader audiences than my thesis. Shibboleths can be useful by communities as a way of signally in-group and out-group (and this is common in expert communities of all sorts, as a way of figuring out who is worth talking to and who isn't; it is a time-saving device at best, a form of social exclusion at worse), whereas obfuscation is something of a subversion of the point of academic research (it seeks to limit analysis, not improve it — the function of doing so is presumably making the writer of such text look more informed than they really are, or preventing critique of their work). the craziest thing is the university is aware of the situation, but warn us if we go to file a complaint "are you ready for the repercussions?"
